I was always interested in science when I was growing up as my Dad was an aerospace engineer and I was always wanting to know what he did. He used to tell me about all the bits of aircraft he had worked with and had loads of interesting stories. I also had some amazing teachers at school who made science and technology really interesting and helped me work out what I enjoyed studying most.

I’ve always had an interest in figuring out how things worked, this included radios that I had taken apart couldn’t put back together, all the way to animals, people and the stars. My adult career has been a series of happy accidents and I’ve changed directions, but I am very glad that I get to do what I like everyday.

So I think if you have a curiosity into a subject, or something you really enjoy doing, it’s worth a shot!

When I younger we only had one TV in the house, and my dad made us all watch Star Trek and at some point I really started to like it, I guess thats what sparked my interest in science!

That’s a tough question. I was always interested at primary school and then got put off a bit while I was at secondary school. I think I only got seriously interested when I made the decision to study marine science; that was because I wanted to know more about the oceans and what lives in them. Once I got started I was hooked!
