I work on invertebrates and these are not subject to the same restrictions as vertebrates, so my research isn’t directly affected. However many of the species found living in the hydrothermal vent environment are not found elsewhere and finding new species is common. We have to be very careful not to damage these environments and to only take what we need. Specimens from the deep-sea are precious because of the logistics and expense of getting them so we make sure that we use everything we take and learn as much as we possibly can from it.
