I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I left school. I thought about doing marine biology but most places asked for chemistry A-level and by that stage I hated chemistry. I don’t think I really understood what marine biologists do either. I went on to study geography because I was good at it and I’ve always been fascinated by volcanoes and plate tectonics. When I finished uni I was really into diving and decided to turn my hobby into a job. I used to wonder what was down there in the depths beyond where I could go on scuba and after several years my brain was crying out for more of a challenge. I went back to university and got a postgraduate degree in oceaonography and the rest is history!
