We often think in this way: is the benefits we get from doing something going to be bigger than the costs we had to pay for it?
So what would the benefit of testing for new cosmetics? There’s a new eye shadow that doesn’t smudge, or a new lipstick that tastes like milkshakes?
But with drugs, you can improve how people are living. If there was nothing we can do for all the sick people, what would the consequences be? We’ll go back to the dark ages when people didn’t live much longer than mid-30’s.
However, it’s not us who are paying this price, it’s the animals and they have no way to refuse to be tested on. So we have make that choice on their behalf, using ethical principles.
If there was any other option I would be for it, but at the moment, SOME animal testing can not be substituted, but in my opinion, some could also be reduced.
It would be great to not test anything on animals. We don’t need make-up and cosmetics can be made from natural ingredients that we know are safe, so really that’s a no brainer for me. On the other hand we can’t give people drugs to make them better or suffer less unless we know that they are safe to use and they actually work. We don’t have a means to test drugs effectively without using animals yet. Perhaps one day we will.
I don’t see the need to test make-up on animals as it doesn’t help save lives. If testing drugs on animals can help save lives then I think it should be done – but regulations are needed that nothing unnecessarily cruel is done and the animals are kept in clean and safe environments.
Nothing I can add to this really, apart from
Drugs= beneficial to all people and animals (vets use drugs for animals dont forget)
Make-up= a fashion trend that isnt really that important!
