• Question: do you actully go under to the deep sea to find your ansewrs?

      No. There are manned submersibles (e.g. Alvin and Nautile) that can carry scientists into the deep sea but I haven’t had the fortune of diving in one of them. We use remotely operated vehicles and other underwater vehicles to collect information and samples to enable us to answer our questions. These are safer options and easier to get hold of for research cruises. I’d love to dive in a manned submersible one day but my mom made me promise not to tell her until I’m safely back on the ship!

      No 🙂 All my work is done safely in the lab on land. I’ve only been diving once (on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia) but I’d love to go again.
